CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL COMMISSIONER D.O. “SPIKE” HELMICK FEATURED ON Capitol Focus

SACRAMENTO - Assemblyman Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) announced today that this month’s guest on his television show Capitol Focus is D.O. “Spike” Helmick, Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol (CHP).  In addition to speaking with Helmick about the mission of the CHP,  Simitian discusses the importance of building relationships with colleagues in Sacramento, his current activities in the District, and the process for developing his 2002 Legislative Session bill package.

“This was a particularly timely opportunity for us to talk about public safety and security,” said Commissioner Helmick.  “And I was impressed that Assemblyman Simitian’s Capitol Focus wanted to tackle some tough topics straight on.”

Simitian’s 30-minute, monthly televised show follows the legislative calendar and informs Peninsula residents about current events in Sacramento.  Each show covers a range of topics of interest to the community and features a significant special guest.  “Communicating with the folks I represent is a top priority for me,” said Simitian.  “And with constituents in 15 different cities spanning two different counties, it’s a challenge.”

“Capitol Focus provides a wonderful opportunity to let my constituents know what’s going on in the Capitol, and in the District, as well as the good work being done by many of my colleagues.”  Simitian promises that the show will be, “timely, candid and always lively.”
