CALIFORNIA STATE PTA HONORS SIMITIAN AT ANNUAL CONVENTION

SACRAMENTO – The California State PTA honored State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) with an Honorary Service Award at its 110th annual convention held last week in San Jose.

The California State PTA has nearly one million members throughout the state working on behalf of public schools, children and families with the motto, “Every Child. One Voice.”

The Honorary Service Award (HSA) is given to an individual or organization to recognize outstanding service to children and youth.

“Sen. Simitian has distinguished himself in the Legislature by authoring legislation that supports education and children’s services,” said Pam Brady, President of the California State PTA.

In accepting his award, Simitian told the over 1,000 attendees that the “PTA has never been more vital, more necessary than it is now.”

The PTA also honored Mary Perry, who has served for the past 15 years as Deputy Director of EdSource, a Mountain View-based nonprofit organization that clarifies complex K–12 education issues.
