About the 11th Senate District

The 11th Senate District spans three counties—Santa Clara, San Mateo and Santa Cruz—and includes the following communities: San Carlos, Redwood City, Menlo Park, Atherton, East Palo Alto, Palo Alto, Stanford, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Cupertino, Campbell, Santa Cruz, Capitola, and a third of San Jose.  (Access detailed 11th District Demographic Information)

Each community has its own distinct personality and culture. From Redwood City where “Climate is Best by Government Test” to Palo Alto, the “Birthplace of Silicon Valley,” to Santa Cruz, home of the Banana Slugs, the residents of the 11th District live and work in communities where education, hard work, and a clean environment are highly valued.

The 11th Senate District is home to Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Cruz, and boasts a strong community college and K-12 education system. It also has unparalleled access to public open space maintained by cities, counties, and special open space districts. The region has been host to much technological innovation. From the garage where Hewlett and Packard did their early work to the human genome project, the people of the 11th Senate District have long been on the cutting edge of new technology.

A mild climate, a stunning landscape, a diverse population, and great educational opportunities make the 11th Senate District an inviting and exciting place to live. But our area is not without its share of challenges - tight housing markets, crowded freeways, and a high cost of living are all byproducts of our success. In characteristic fashion, the residents of the 11th District are working together through innovative new partnerships to tackle these problems.

When fellow legislators ask me about my district and constituents, I’m always proud to say that the folks I represent value good government, have high expectations, and are actively engaged in their communities.

It’s my pleasure to serve you in the California State Senate. Stay in touch!
