MEDIA CALL 11 A.M. TUESDAY: SENATORS SIMITIAN AND EVANS TO UNVEIL PROPOSAL TO KEEP STATE PARKS OPEN

SACRAMENTO—In a media call 11 a.m. Tuesday, State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto), chair of the Senate Budget Subcommittee #2 on Resources, Environmental Protection, Energy and Transportation, will unveil a budget proposal to stop the shutdown of up to 50 state parks and provide a long-term funding plan to protect them. Simitian will be joined on the call by State Senator Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa), a longtime advocate for the state parks.

The call is open to credentialed media only.

Last year, 70 state parks were slated for closure due to budget cuts, but that number may be reduced by 16. Simitian and Evans will be offering a ‘Sustainable Parks Proposal’ that could keep up to 50 parks open.
