SIMITIAN WILL MEET WITH STAKEHOLDERS AT EDUCATION UPDATE MEETING BEFORE GOVERNOR RELEASES MAY REVISE BUDGET

SACRAMENTO - State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) today announced that he will host his semi-annual “Education Update” meeting on May 7 for local school board members, superintendents, teachers, parents, and other education advocates.

Simitian timed this meeting in anticipation of the Governor’s release of his “May Revise” budget proposal, which is expected days after Simitian’s meeting.

“The Administration’s current budget proposal cuts $2 billion from what was supposed to be a constitutionally guaranteed minimum,” Simitian said.  “You don’t get what you don’t pay for, and we can’t expect quality education for kids if we don’t provide the necessary funding.”

As a member of the Senate Education Committee and the Senate Budget Subcommittee on Education, Simitian will provide an in-depth update on K-12 education funding and policy proposals pending in Sacramento.  He will then open the floor to questions, concerns, and comments.

“These ‘Education Updates’ give me an opportunity to hear from folks in my district about their education priorities and policy concerns.  I want to know what local education advocates are thinking, and what matters most to them.  Knowing that helps me better serve our local schools and students.”

EDUCATION UPDATE MEETING:
Saturday, May 7, 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.
Palo Alto Unified School District Board Room
25 Churchill Avenue
Palo Alto, CA 94306

The public is encouraged to attend.  To RSVP or request more information, please call Senator Simitian’s district office at (650) 688-6384.
