SIMITIAN JOINS BOARD OF THE AMERICAN LEADERSHIP FORUM – SILICON VALLEY

SACRAMENTO – The American Leadership Forum – Silicon Valley has elected Assemblyman Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) to its Board of Directors.

“I’m honored to join the American Leadership Forum Board,” Simitian said.  “The organization plays a critical role in bringing together a diverse cross-section of leaders to make Silicon Valley a better place to live and work.”

The American Leadership Forum (ALF) is a nonprofit organization that brings senior level leaders together to build philanthropy, service, and community in Silicon Valley.  Graduates of the organization’s one-year fellows program, now numbering over 260, have created a strong and lasting network that brings together a broad cross-section of leaders who are committed to building a stronger community, developing collaborative leadership skills to identify and deal with complex and difficult issues, and creating opportunities to work together in ways that make a significant difference to the Valley.

ALF Silicon Valley creates a strong regional network of key leaders across private, public, and nonprofit sectors.  This “boundary crossing” by regional leaders is a key element in ALF’s work to build a regional sense of community. The Silicon Valley chapter of ALF is one of eight chapters in a national network.

“Assemblyman Simitian knows ALF’s work first-hand through his participation in the Fellows Program in 1998/99, and his continuing role as a Senior Fellow,” said Ann Skeet, President of ALF Silicon Valley.  “With his strong background in both the private and public sectors, and as an elected official, Joe brings important insights to our Board.”

Prior to his election to the Assembly in 2000, Simitian served as a member of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, Mayor of Palo Alto, and President of the Palo Alto School Board.  He also worked in the private sector as a public schools attorney, businessman, and certified city planner.

“Joe has a great reputation for strategic thinking and getting things done,” said ALF Silicon Valley Board Chair Les Denend, a Director at Network Associates.  “His intellect and perspectives will be valuable additions to our Board, and we all look forward to serving with him.”
