Simitian pushes bill to mandate more clean energy, again

State Sen. Joe Simitian is hoping the third time’s the charm when it comes to pushing power companies for more renewable juice.

The senator, who represents part of Santa Cruz County, reintroduced legislation Thursday that would require California energy providers to get 33 percent of their power from clean sources by 2020, one of the most far-reaching energy initiatives in the nation.

“I think we’re awfully close to a solution now,” Simitian said Thursday. “But this is not easy. This is a more ambitious goal.”
