SIMITIAN RECEIVES CRIME FIGHTER AWARD

SACRAMENTO – Fight Crime: Invest in Kids California has named State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) as the recipient of its 2010 Crime Fighter Award. Simitian was singled out for his legislation to benefit youth and public safety.

Fight Crime: Invest in Kids California is a bipartisan, anti-crime organization of 400 sheriffs, police chiefs, district attorneys and victims of violence dedicated to reducing crime by supporting early investments – such as dropout prevention, quality preschool and child abuse and neglect programs.

“Senator Simitian has consistently focused on smart, targeted investments in schools and kids – investments which have helped increase student success and decrease criminal behavior,” said Barrie Becker, State Director of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids California.

“I’m gratified to receive this recognition,” said Simitian. “Understanding what works in the classroom pays big dividends, both for at-risk kids and for local communities.”

Simitian was presented with the award by San Mateo Police Chief Susan Manheimer in Sacramento on Wednesday.
