SIMITIAN RECOGNIZED FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR YOUTH

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) was awarded a “Making a Difference Award” recently from Friends for Youth, a non-profit mentoring organization based in Redwood City. Simitian was recognized as part of the organization’s 13th annual mentoring conference on February 10.

Simitian was recognized for his policy work on behalf of young people as well as being an early supporter of Friends for Youth’s Mentoring Institute, which provides education on best practices in mentoring to programs across the nation.

“It is particularly gratifying to be recognized by an organization that is clearly making a difference in the lives of young people in a very personal and powerful way,” said Simitian.

According to Friends for Youth, “Nominees for these awards have shown an outstanding commitment and enthusiasm for young people over a significant period of time, from public policy initiatives to improving program standards, from financial support to individual time dedicated to being a mentor.”

Simitian was honored along with Emmet Purcell, Gary Goldberg, Carol Blackman and Robbi Coleman.
