SIMITIAN TO HOLD SENATE’S FIRST ONLINE TOWN HALL

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Joe Simitian is inviting constituents in the 11th State Senate District to participate in the Senate’s first ever live streaming town hall from the State Capitol.  “E-Upd@te With State Senator Joe Simitian” will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13th.  All topics will be open for discussion during the one hour event.

“Elected officials need to stay in touch with their constituents on a regular basis,” said Simitian.  “I want to keep folks up to date with what I’m working on, and even more important, hear from them.  A Town Hall is participatory democracy in its purest form.”

A portion of the event will be dedicated to education questions.  State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell will join Senator Simitian as his guest and help field questions related to the topic.

“The folks I represent are thoughtful, educated and engaged,” said Simitian. “I expect we’ll have questions on every issue.”

Simitian regularly hears from his constituents face-to-face at his various Sidewalk Office Hours, Town Hall Meetings, Education Updates and the annual Santa Cruz Ice Cream Social.

However, Simitian noted that, “With a district sprawling over three counties, it makes sense for me to use every tool available to make my office accessible. This web-based town hall will give folks an opportunity to get their questions answered from the comfort of their own homes.”

Those interested can begin sending their questions in advance by logging onto http://www.senatorsimitian.com.  The night of the E-Upd@te, everyone is invited to log onto the same website to ask questions, and watch the event live.  Everyone who submits a question will receive an answer.
