Simitian to receive League of Cities award

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

State Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, will be honored by the League of California Cities Wednesday for his ongoing commitment to protecting local land use authority.

Simitian will receive an award for Outstanding Leadership, with eight other state legislators. Along with the award they will be featured in the January issue of Western City magazine, according to the league.

“Sen. Simitian has long been a friend to local government in the Legislature,” League Executive Director Chris McKenzie said. “In 2007, he stood out for his impressive conduct as Chair of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee during a series of hearings on a controversial land use measure.”

Simitian said that he looks forward to “continuing to work with the League to improve the quality of life in California’s cities.”
