SIMITIAN WILL HOLD “EDUCATION UPDATE” MEETINGS TO DISCUSS GOVERNOR’S PROPOSED BUDGET

PALO ALTO - State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) announced today that he will host his semi-annual “Education Update” meetings on Saturday, February 10 in Palo Alto and Thursday, February 15 in Santa Cruz for local school board members, superintendents, teachers, parents, and other education advocates.

This marks the first time that Simitian will host such an event in Santa Cruz.  Simitian timed these meetings with the Governor’s release of his January budget proposal.

“Our schools face tremendous challenges in these tight budget times,” Simitian said.  “These ‘Education Updates’ give me an opportunity to know what local education leaders and advocates are thinking, and what matters most to them.  Knowing that helps me better serve our local schools and kids.”

As a member of the Senate Education Committee and the Senate Budget Subcommittee on Education, and as Chair of the Senate Select Committee on California’s Master Plan for Education, Simitian will provide an in-depth update on K-12 education funding and legislation pending in Sacramento.  He will then open the floor to questions, concerns, and comments.
