STUDENTS, PARENTS DELIVER SIMITIAN OVER 15,000 LETTERS OPPOSING CUTS TO EDUCATION BUDGET

WHAT:
Students, parents, teachers and officials of the Redwood City School District will present Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) with ten boxes full of their letters and artwork expressing concern about proposed budget cuts to education.  Simitian plans to personally deliver the letters to Governor Schwarzenegger when he is in Sacramento on Monday.

The Governor proposed over $4 billion in cuts to education that will directly affect programs in the district.  Simitian has deep concerns about the impact cuts will have on the quality of education.  “The current generation of students can’t afford further cuts.  We need to do right by our kids and we need to do it now,” Simitian said.

The pleas to preserve education funding were collected from students at Adelante, Clifford, Roy Cloud, Fair Oaks, John Gill, Hawes, Henry Ford, Hoover, Kennedy, McKinley, North Star, Orion, Roosevelt, Selby Lane, and Taft Schools in the district.
