WINNERS OF SIMITIAN’S “THERE OUGHTA BE A LAW” CONTEST TO TESTIFY IN SACRAMENTO

SACRAMENTO – Winners of Assemblyman Joe Simitian’s (D-Palo Alto) “There Oughta Be a Law” Contest will be coming to Sacramento to testify on behalf of their bills.  Three different winners were selected by Simitian, who introduced three bills based on their proposals.

The bills include:

  • AB 2472 – to be heard in Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxics Committee on April 23, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. This bill was suggested by David Coale, Cindy Russell, and David Smernoff of Acterra. It requires the State Department of General Services to implement a demonstration project designed to reduce the amount of pesticides and herbicides used on the Capitol Complex, which includes the State Capitol, its grounds and some surrounding buildings.
  • AB 2473 – to be heard in Assembly Business and Professions Committee on May 7, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. This bill was suggested by Andrea Leiderman of Mountain View who will be present to testify at the Committee hearing. It requires a business that declares bankruptcy to continue to accept gift certificates that were issued prior to the date of the bankruptcy.
  • AB 2474 – to be heard in Assembly Business and Professions Committee on April 23, 2002, at 9:00 a.m. This bill was suggested by Lauren Ward of Cupertino who will be present to testify and accompanied by her family. It requires that antifreeze sold in California contain a bittering agent to reduce the incidence of accidental poisonings of children, pets, and wildlife.
