SB 1611 (2006) would have provided local congestion management agencies with the option to generate additional local transportation funding through an increase in vehicle registration fees. Adoption of a fee would require a majority vote of the electorate. Projects funded through fee would be limited to those directly benefiting local motorists.
Current law authorizes similar vehicle registration fees for air districts and other local agencies.
