SB 20: Security Breach Notification Improvements (2009)

Summary

SB 20 updates California’s landmark security breach notification law to enhance consumer understanding of security breaches. It requires that the notification letters required by current law contain specified information such as the type of information compromised and a general description of the breach.

After this bill passed the Legislature, Senator Simitian sent a letter to the Governor urging his signature on this bill.
