ASSEMBLY BUDGET COMMITTEE RESTORES HIGHER ED FUNDING TO ALLOW MORE THAN 23,000 STUDENTS BACK INTO UC AND CSU

SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Joe Simitian, Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, announced today that the Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance has voted to restore funds to the 2004-05 higher education budget that would allow more than 23,000 students back into the UC and CSU systems.

The Subcommittee is taking action on the Governor’s revised budget proposal for education, which includes cuts to higher education that would turn away roughly 23,000 students, many of whom have already received their college admission letters.

The Budget Subcommittee also took action to reject the Administration’s proposal to reduce financial aid for California students attending public and private universities.
