MEDIA ADVISORY: SIMITIAN TO MEET WITH U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OFFICIALS IN D.C. ON “RACE TO THE TOP” FUNDS

SACRAMENTO - State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) is set to meet with top U.S. Department of Education officials in Washington, D.C. Tuesday regarding California’s “Race to the Top” eligibility; and specifically his legislation, Senate Bill 19, which is on its way to the Governor’s desk for a signature.

Simitian drafted SB 19 to ensure that California would be eligible to compete for its share of $4.35 billion in federal “Race to the Top” funds for schools.  Simitian is scheduled to meet with the U.S. Department of Education’s Assistant Secretary Russlynn Ali and General Counsel Charlie Rose.
