PLANNED PARENTHOOD RATES SIMITIAN 100%

SACRAMENTO - Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC) has recognized State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) for scoring 100% on his 2007 voting record on legislation to protect reproductive health and rights.  Simitian has consistently scored 100% for his voting record on pro-choice measures.

Simitian was previously honored by Planned Parenthood Advocates Mar Monte in 2007 with their “Voices for Change” Legislator Award.

PPAC releases this annual scorecard for the 40 members of the State Senate based on their “aye” vote on various bills.  “I’m gratified by the recognition,” said Simitian. “I will continue to support legislation that safeguards reproductive health and rights.”

“Senator Simitian has been a consistently reliable voice and vote for access to reproductive health care in the Senate, the Assembly and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. We look forward to many more 100% ratings for him,” said Linda Williams, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte.

The bills that were used to score legislators included AB 629, which requires any publicly funded program providing information to prevent adolescent or unintended pregnancies and/or sexually transmitted diseases to be medically accurate; AB 1328, which eliminates eligibility barriers to the Maternity Access for Infants and Mothers (AIM) program; and AB 1334, which allows for nonprofit or health agencies, including prisons, to distribute condoms without criminal penalty.

The PPAC is the public policy arm of the nine Planned Parenthood affiliates in California.  The scorecard is posted on its website at www.ppacca.org.
