SIMITIAN ANNOUNCES EDUCATION UPDATE MEETING

PALO ALTO - Assemblyman Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) announced today that he will host an “Education Update” meeting this month for San Mateo County and Santa Clara County school board members, superintendents, teachers and parents.

As Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, Simitian will give an in-depth update on the latest state budget issues. “Working closely with local education advocates was key to our success in holding off last year’s proposed cuts to ‘basic aid’ school districts,” said Simitian. “We had good news this year when the Governor’s budget didn’t include a basic aid take-away. Now is not the time to let our guard down. Plenty of challenges lie ahead.”

The purpose of the meetings, Simitian explained, “is to hear from the folks in my district about their specific budget and policy concerns - to talk about what the State should or shouldn’t do in the interest of our schools and our kids. If my work in the Capitol is going to reflect the concerns of my district, conversations like these are absolutely essential.”

“Assemblyman Simitian’s Education Updates helps everyone stay current on the latest happenings in Sacramento. Joe listens to our concerns, and gives us the information we need to be effective advocates for public schools,” said Bruce Ives, President of the Menlo Park School Board.

EDUCATION UPDATE MEETING:

Saturday, January 24, 10 A.M. - 12 P.M.
Palo Alto Unified School District Office
25 Churchill
Palo Alto, CA

To RSVP or request more information, please call Assemblyman Simitian’s district office at (650) 688-6384.

The public is invited.
