SIMITIAN TO DISCUSS UC POLICY DENYING STUDENTS ADMISSION FOLLOWING BUDGET COMPROMISE

SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Joe Simitian, Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, will hold a press conference on Thursday, August 26, at 10 AM, to discuss University of California admissions policy, including the subsequent denial of admission to students who were conditionally accepted, despite recent State action to provide additional funds to UC.

Simitian will share his concerns about UC’s handling of additional funds and suggest actions to correct its policy this year and provide greater accountability in future years.  Among the proposals Simitian will share are proposed interim hearings, a request for consideration by the Joint Legislative Audit Committee and an Assembly letter to University of California, President Robert Dynes.

WHEN: THURSDAY, AUGUST 26, 10AM
WHERE: Room 317, State Capitol
