SIMITIAN TO HOLD “EDUCATION UPDATE”
FOCUSING ON GOVERNOR’S BUDGET PROPOSAL

PALO ALTO - State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) announced today that he will hold an “Education Update” meeting on Saturday, February 5th, in Palo Alto for school board members, superintendents, teachers, parents, and other education advocates.
Simitian, a member of the Senate Education Committee, will provide an in-depth update on Gov. Jerry Brown’s budget and on K-12 policy proposals pending in Sacramento. He will also provide an update on Senate Bill 1381, the Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010, and on how the new transitional kindergarten will be implemented. Simitian will then open the floor to questions, concerns, and comments.
“I’m particularly eager to hear from folks as California schools face continuing budget challenges,” said Simitian.  “Schools are coping with reduced resources and higher expectations. These conversations are critical to help the Legislature understand what is actually happening in the classroom.”
Since being elected to the California Legislature in 2000, Simitian has held regular “Education Updates” in his district.
“These ‘Education Updates’ give me an opportunity to stay in touch with local education leaders, parents and advocates,” said Simitian. “Knowing what they’re thinking helps me better serve our local schools and kids.”
