SIMITIAN WILL HOLD “EDUCATION UPDATE” MEETINGS BEFORE GOVERNOR RELEASES MAY REVISE BUDGET

SACRAMENTO - State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) announced today that he will host his semi-annual “Education Update” meeting on Thursday, May 4 in Santa Cruz and Saturday, May 6 in Palo Alto for local school board members, superintendents, teachers, parents, and other education advocates.

This marks the first time that Simitian will host such an event in Santa Cruz.  Simitian timed these meetings in anticipation of the Governor’s release of his “May Revise” budget proposal, which is expected days after Simitian’s meetings.

“Our schools face tremendous challenges in these tight budget times,” Simitian said.  “These ‘Education Updates’ give me an opportunity to know what local education leaders and advocates are thinking, and what matters most to them.  Knowing that helps me better serve our local schools and kids.”

As a member of the Senate Education Committee and the Senate Budget Subcommittee on Education, and as Chair of the new Senate Select Committee on California’s Master Plan for Education, Simitian will provide an in-depth update on K-12 education funding and legislation pending in Sacramento.  He will then open the floor to questions, concerns, and comments.
