SB 1268: Electronic Toll Collection Privacy (2010)
Summary
SB 1268 protects the privacy of motorists in California by controlling the use of personal information that is collected and stored by electronic toll collection systems (i.e., travel pattern data, location, speed, time of day, address, telephone number, bank account information, credit card number, etc.).
The bill also provides a civil remedy for drivers whose personal information is released in violation of this section to recover damages, reasonable costs and attorney’s fees.
After this bill passed the Legislature, Senator Simitian sent a letter to the Governor urging his signature on this bill.
